EASTON, Pa. - On Lafayette's senior night, Lafayette dominated the second half with flurries of shots at the Lehigh keeper but it was not enough as Lehigh picked up the win, 1-0 at Oaks Stadium on Saturday night.
The first half the historic rival brought six shots from Lehigh and none from Lafayette as the game went scoreless into halftime.
In the 40th minute, Lauren Smedley was taking down after stopping a play by the Mountain Hawks and after a minute to catch her breath she got right back in goal.
With 22 minutes left in the second half, Lehigh's Jana Basubas headed the ball from the air into the back left corner of the net to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Off a Lafayette free kick, Avery Jackson sent the ball into the box where Shannon Neschke headed the ball towards the net and Lauren Mains made the diving save for Lehigh.
The Leopards took four shots to Lehigh's 10 while Smedley made four saves and Mains picked up a pair of saves.
Prior to the start of the game, Lafayette recognized its eight seniors: Stephanie Bereday, Grace Fennell, Olivia Hawes, Kassidy Keller, Caitlin Kennedy, Mackenzie Moore, Katie Roberts and Kim Sorace.
