EASTON, Pa. - Down by only one goal at halftime, the Lafayette women's lacrosse team could not pull off a come-from-behind victory and dropped a 12-8 decision to Temple on Saturday afternoon.
The Leopards (0-2) trailed 6-5 at halftime and had out-shot the Owls (1-1) by a 15-12 margin, but Lafayette managed only three goals in the second half to drop the 12-8 game.
Six different players netted goals for the Leopards, three of which came from rookies. Senior Julia Bateman and freshman Katie Leto had two scores apiece while sophomore Erin Steel led the team with three assists. Freshman Addie Godfrey had a solid all-around effort with one goal and one assist.
Lafayette goalie Emily Bjork had eight saves on the afternoon with five coming in the first 30 minutes. Her counterpart, Jessica Colucci, made nine stops against the Leopards.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle. The Owls took a 2-0 lead before Lauren Brown got the Leopards on the board on an unassisted score with 19:27 on the clock.
Back-to-back Lafayette goals knotted it three-all midway through the half.
Temple followed suit with two unanswered scores of its own before Lafayette closed out the half by scoring two of the final three goals to make it a one-goal game (6-5) at halftime.
The Leopards put up a goal less than 20 seconds into the second-half action thanks to Bateman, but Temple responded with three unanswered scores. Godfrey snapped that stretch with a goal with 14:14 remaining but that was followed by three more Owls goals to make it 12-7.
Senior Maria Drehwing had the game's final goal, her first score of the season.
Lafayette hits the road on Wednesday to face Marist at 4 p.m.
