EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette won both of its games in the home opener of the season against Wagner on Wednesday afternoon at Metzgar Fields. The Leopards won 2-1 in the first game and 5-3 in the second. Lafayette now sits at .500 with a 7-7 record.
In the first game, Wagner was able to get on the board first off a Kate Eshelman single up the right side that brought Carley Nicoletti home to give the Seahawks a 1-0 edge.
Lafayette's Kasey Karr answered back with her fourth homer of the season to tie up the game.
The game winning score came in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, Stacey Kushner singled to right field allowing Carely Feiro to score and seal the early win.
Karr pitched all seven innings in the win, making her first at Lafayette in all-time wins with 35 career wins. She gave up four hits and one run out of 25 at bats, and struck out six.
In the second game, Wagner was able to get the first score of the game off an Eshelman sacrifice bunt that brought Emily Peirce in for the score.
In the third inning, with Kristin Garganio and Kerry Griffin on second and third, freshman Jordan Parsons singled to right field and brought the two runners home.
Parsons advanced to second on a wild pitch and Madeline Allen walked. Stacey Dorn singled up the middle advancing Allen to second and allowing Parsons to come home. Lafayette led 3-1.
The Leopards scored again in the fourth off a Garganio singled bringing Karr to the plate. Following the score, Griffin singled to left field and Garganio ran to second.
Parsons was up to bat when she singled to left field allowing Garanio to come home and giving her a third RBI of the game.
The Seahawks came back with two runs of their own but it was not enough as the Leopards went on to win 5-3.
Emily Noel was giving the win, pitching five innings and striking out two.
Lafayette hits the road to take on Villanova on Saturday for a double-header starting at noon. The Leopards then travel to Princeton on Sunday for a 12:30 game.
