PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Lafayette traveled to Philadelphia to take on Penn in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Leopards fell in a tough battle in the first game after a Quaker grand slam 13-11 and came back and took the second 8-5.

The Leopards got on the board first with two runs in the opening inning. Stacey Dorn was up to bat with Stacey Kushner in scoring position as she doubled to right center field to bring Kushner and Kasey Karr home on a fielding error.

The Maroon and White added two more runs in the second inning when Karr singled through the right side of the field and picked up two RBI bringing Gwen Turner and Carly Feiro.

Lafayette (12-23) led 4-0 going into the fifth inning, with the bases loaded junior Kerry Griffin singled up the left side and brought around Kristin Garganio for the run. Following the run, Feiro hit a sacrifice fly out to center field and picked up an RBI as Kushner score the Leopards sixth run.

Penn (12-15) came out strong in the fifth inning knocking off nine runs against Lafayette. Penn freshman Brooke Coloma got up to bat with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam and gave the Quakers four runs.

The Quakers picked up another three runs off a Stephanie Caso double to left field and picked up the three RBI. The final two runs by Penn came at the end of the inning off a Lafayette error and after one inning Penn took a 9-6 lead.

The Leopards answered back with four runs in the sixth inning when Garganio doubled to left field and brought Karr and Kugler around to home. Garganio scored off a Kushner single. Griffin came up to bat with Dorn on first and Kushner on second and singled to right field and picked up an RBI. Lafayette regained the lead by one, 10-9.

Penn answer back with four runs of its own and took a 13-10 lead over Lafayette. In the final inning Turner hit an inside the park home run. Penn's defense did not allow another Leopard run and went on to win 13-11.

In the second game, the Leopards kicked off the first inning with four runs. Karr scored when Garganio was hit by a pitch.

Lafayette's second run was scored by Jordan Parson on a wild pitch. Griffin followed with a single up the middle bringing Garganio around to score and Kushner followed with a run on a throwing error by the catcher.

Penn scored three run in the first inning off a Keiko Uraquchi single that brought Caso around for the score. Kelsey Wolfe singled up the middle and picked up two RBI. Lafayette led 4-3 after the first inning.

Lafayette didn't score again until the fourth inning when Garganio was up to bat with Cody Kugler in scoring position at third as she singled through the right side of the field and allowed Kugler to come home.

Dorn singled up the opposite side and brought home Parsons followed by a Griffin single to right field to bring around Garganio. The Leopard took a 7-3 lead.

The Leopards scored their last run in the top of the fifth when Parsons singled and brought Kugler home. Penn scored a run in the fifth and sixth inning but it was not enough and Lafayette picked up its 12th run of the season.

In the first game Christine Hilcken pitched five innings in the loss giving up 11 runs and 10 hits. Ali Henry pitched all seven inning in the second game for the win with five runs and four strike outs.

The Leopards host archrival Lehigh on Saturday and Sunday starting at noon. Saturday's game can be seen on LSN All-Access.
