WORCESTER, Mass. - The Leopards' offense matched the weather in Worcester, Mass. Battling frigid temperatures, the Lafayette women's lacrosse team managed only four goals in a 13-4 Patriot League loss at Holy Cross on Saturday.
Only two players scored goal for Lafayette (3-13, 1-5) with two from junior Lauren Brown and another pair of goals from Patriot League Rookie of the Week Addie Godfrey. The game marked the final Patriot League contest of the year for the Leopards.
Holy Cross, meanwhile, used 31 shots to net 13 goals and pick up its second league win. The Crusaders (5-10, 2-3) were led by Maddie Carrellas's four goals while Katie Gardner added three goals and a game-high five assists.
Lafayette's starting goalie, Emily Bjork, saw just over 49 minutes of playing time and gave up 12 goals while making eight saves. Sophomore Alexa Biale played the final 10-plus minutes and had one save and surrendered one goal.
The Leopards did the majority of their scoring in the first half. After Holy Cross jumped out to a 3-0 lead have 12 minutes of action Godfrey put Lafayette on the board with an unassisted goal at the 17-minute mark.
The Leopards went down 5-2 before scoring two goals in the final 6:30 of the first half to cut Holy Cross's lead in half at 6-3.
Unfortunately, the second half was all Crusaders. They scored four unanswered goals before Brown stopped the streak with her second and final goal of the afternoon with 13:37 on the clock. Holy Cross went on to score three more goals, including one with 11 seconds remaining, to seal the 13-4 win.
Lafayette closes out its 2010 season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Longwood.
