WASHINGTON, D.C. - The loss snapped Lafayette's brief, two-game win streak.
Erin Steel and Margaux LeBuffe each had a hat trick for the Leopards (2-10, 1-3) while freshman Cammie Linville added two goals.
American (5-7, 3-1) picked up its third league win thanks in part to a balanced attack in which 10 players scored at least one goal and the team took 43 shots to Lafayette's 23. The Eagles also connected on six of its 13 free position shots and forced 21 Leopard turnovers.

American controlled the game from the beginning, opening on a 5-0 stretch over 15 minutes and featured two Lauren Schoenberger goals. Schoenberger finished with a three-goal effort, one of three Eagles players to do so.
Linville and Steel netted back-to-back goals less than 30 seconds apart to make it 5-2, but six more American goals over the final 14:44 of the half gave American the 11-4 lead at halftime.
Lafayette came out of the break and put together a solid final 30 minutes. The Eagles and Leopards matched each other with eight goals in the second half. That included six unanswered Lafayette scores midway through the period that made it a three-goal game (13-10) with 14:09 remaining.
Unfortunately American scored six of the game's final eight goals to take the 19-12 decision.
