June 8, 2010

EASTON, Pa. - Former Lafayette pitcher Ryan Hanna '09 has signed a professional contract with the Rosmalen Gryphons of the Royal Netherlands Baseball Federation.

Hanna, who earned All-Patriot League Tournament honors as a senior, will report to the team on June 18. The league runs from June to September.

A four-year member of the Leopards, Hanna had a career year in 2009. He led the team with six wins and finished the season with a 5.68 ERA. He logged a team-high 71.1 innings of work in 13 starts and 19 appearances.

In the semifinal round of the 2009 Patriot League Tournament, Hanna pitched 10.2 innings, including seven innings of one-run ball in relief in the Leopards' decisive game three victory against Bucknell that sent Lafayette to the championship series for the second time in three years. His performance in the series earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Hanna had been living in Sacramento, Calif. for the past year working for a non-profit organization and playing in a local baseball league before signing with the Gryphons.

A two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Hanna graduated in May 2009 as a double major in English and Spanish.
