LEXINGTON, Va. - Lafayette pitcher Ian Dickson (Northport, N.Y./Northport), one of many Leopards across the country currently playing summer ball, is having a breakout summer with the Rockbridge Rapids of the Valley League.
After starting the season out of the bullpen for the Rapids, Dickson has worked his way into the starting rotation and has become Rockbridge's ace. He most recently tossed a no-hitter on Aug. 2 at Covington, going all nine innings with a season-high 17 strikeouts.
This summer, Dickson leads the Rapids' pitching staff in nearly every category, including ERA (2.37), wins (3) and strikeouts (55). As a starter, he has logged 41.1 innings of work and boasts a 2.18 ERA with 47 strikeouts.
Dickson has started six of the 10 games in which he has appeared for Rockbridge and batters are hitting just .182 against him, the lowest average against any pitcher in the Valley League.
The rising junior has been a solid arm in the bullpen for Lafayette since 2008. He has appeared in 33 games and has three saves and 40 strikeouts to his credit.
