EASTON, Pa. - Jeremy Atkins '10, a former protégé of Joe Kinney on the Lafayette baseball team, has completed his first campaign as a professional baseball player. Atkins, who was one of the most dominant pitchers in the Peach State League over the summer, appeared with three teams in the Georgia-based independent league before switching coasts to join the St. George (Utah) RoadRunners of the Golden Baseball League. The 6'1" right-handed hurler earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors and was runner-up for Patriot League Rookie of the Year during his stint on College Hill.
Atkins wrapped up his Lafayette career with the third-most innings pitched in a Leopards' uniform with 230.1. Additionally, his 141 strikeouts are good for 11th all-time in program history. As a four-year starter for Coach Kinney, Atkins picked up 14 careers wins with a career earned run average of 5.39.
After graduating in May with a degree in mathematics and economics, Atkins moved on to the Peach State League, where he split his time between the Robins Aviators, Milledgeville Capitals and Albany Quails. The former Leopards led the league in wins, boasting an impressive 6-1 mark in 10 appearances (seven starts). He was also among the league leaders with a 2.58 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 52.1 innings of work. After his late-season move to the Golden Baseball League, Atkins made four relief appearances for the RoadRunners.
Atkins joined former Leopard Chris Luick '09 in the GBL. Luick batted .299 in 26 contests with the Tijuana Cimarrones.
