PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was able to get off six shots in both halves against Drexel on Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Leopards fell 1-0 after the 90 minutes of play.
After toiling through the majority of a scoreless first half, the Dragons generated a patient offensive build up which resulted in a Sam Greenfield goal just before halftime. Julia Speroni served a ball to the middle of the goal box where Greenfield skillfully held off her defender, then gathered the bouncing ball and struck a half volley to the right side of the goal, past keeper Lauren Smedley.
Lafayette edged Drexel in shots 12 to 11 and held a slight 5-4 advantage in saves. Four Leopards were able to get into scoring position but Dragon's goalie Victoria Troccoli made all four saves.
In the second half, Drexel's Courtney Wylie had a shot on goal from 20-yards out on the right side, but Smedley was equal to that test in the 65th minute.
The Leopards continue their road games as they head to Bryant on Friday evening for a 4 p.m. start.
