EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette (6-11, 1-1) hosts Navy on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Lafayette is coming off its first Patriot League win on Wednesday, while Navy (5-13, 0-2) is searching for its first league win.
Senior forward Jared Mintz became the 36th player in Lafayette history to surpass the 1,000-point career scoring plateau. Nine minutes into the game against Colgate, Mintz scored his eighth point of the game and 1000th of his career after scoring the first six points of the game. Mintz has 1,013 points and needs 22 points to move into 35th place, currently held by Dan Kristoff '65. Prior to Mintz, the last player to reach 1,000 points was Andrew Brown '09 (1,438 points). Junior Ryan Willen has 867 career points and could reach the mark this season.
Senior forward Darion Benbow has been one of the Leopards' go-to players in a recent four-game span. Benbow is averaging 12.5 points per game in that swing, scoring 12 at Fairleigh Dickinson, 10 vs. Columbia, 13 at Holy Cross and a career-high 15 vs. Colgate in the team's last outing. In that same time, Benbow is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game (9, 9, 5, 5).
Junior forward Ryan Willen left Wednesday's game vs. Colgate after sustaining a neck injury early in the second half. He was taken to the hospital for tests and was released later that night. Willen worked out on Thursday and is expected to be able to play vs. Navy.
Navy's backcourt sets the tone led by senior guard O.J. Avworo. Avworo is averaging 7.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He plays alongside senior Greg Brown (10.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg) and junior Jordan Sugars, the team's leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and rebounder (6.1 rpg).
