Henderson Leads Lafayette Men with Third Place Finish

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Lafayette returned to the track after a month layoff Saturday night at the NYC Armory. The Saturday night collegiate series had 17 men's teams and 14 women's teams competing. The Leopards competed against Patriot League rivals Bucknell and Army as well as Villanova, University of Connecticut, Temple, Penn and St. John's.

On the men's side, junior Nick Henderson had the highest placing individual performance with a third place finish in the pole vault. His 15'3" clearance tied his personal best set at last year's Indoor Patriot League Championship.

Teammate Michael Thompson was eighth with a jump of 14'9". Senior captain Ryan Stasiowski was placed fourth in the mile run clocking in at 4:18.88. Nick Hepp set an indoor personal best in the 400m with a time of 50.65 and finishing eighth.

The Leopards also featured two relay teams that finished in the top-10. The 4 x 800m relay team of Stasiowski, Matt Piazza, Derrick Hargwood and Dayne Mosconi finished fourth with a time of 8:04.78. The 4 x 400m relay of Nick DeRosa, Ryan McVeigh, Hepp and Bill Leonard earned a sixth place finish with a time of 3:23.65.

The women's team also had a successful meet with junior Joelle Neilson placing sixth in the long jump with a jump of 18'4 1/2". The jump tied her all time best. Freshman Rebecca Slotkin finished sixth in the pole vault with a jump of 11' 1 3/4" while teammate Brooke Kohler finished eighth with the same height of 11' 1 3/4".

Senior Allison Hawkey clocked in at 2:22.15 for an eighth place finish in the 800m. Other notable performances for the night came from, senior Kelly Clyde in the 200m (26.10), Adedayo Adu in the 400m (59.69), Chelsea Marone in the 500m (1:20.83) and Gwen Steckel in the 20lb Weight (46' 1/2").

Junior Lauren Kelly ran Friday night at the Armory's Gotham Cup and finished eighth in the 5000m run. Her time of 18:04.84 was a personal best and places her sixth on the Lafayette All-Time list.

Lafayette is back in action on Friday as the Leopards head back to the Armory to compete in the Great Dane Classic.
