EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette (8-13, 3-3) closes out its first-round of Patriot League play against preseason favorite American (14-7, 4-2) on national television. The Leopards are coming off a 23-point win over Army on Wednesday while the Eagles lost 72-53 to Navy.
Saturday's game can be seen live on CBS College Sports and then re-played on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. and again on Feb. 1 at 3 a.m., 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Bob Socci and John Feinstein call the action.
Nick Petkovich is contributing 10 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the Leopards' Patriot League games and is second on the team in scoring and rebounding in those games. Petkovich is shooting 52 percent from three-point land in the Leopards' six Patriot League games. In non-league play, the junior was averaging 3.7 ppg and 1.6 rpg in 12 mpg.
Offensively, American is led by senior transfer Vlad Moldoveanu. The forward is avergaing 20.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Joining him at forward is junior Stephem Lumpkins (12.4 ppg), the team's leading rebounder at 7.8 rpg.
In the backcourt, senior guard Nick Hendra is contributing 7.5 points and 3.4 assists per game while junior transfer (Georgia) Troy Brewer is averaging 10.6 ppg. Junior Simon McCormack (3.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg), junior transfer (Vanderbilt) Charles Hinkle (5.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg) , senior Steve Luptak (2.5 ppg, 1.2 rpg) and sophomore Daniel Munoz (3.1 ppg, 2.0 apg) have all played key roles in the Americna backcourt this season.
