The Lafayette track and field teams took on historic rival Lehigh on Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem where the women lost 101 to 80 while the men fell 107-74.
Seniors Kelly Clyde and Kerriann Borke were named Lafayette's outstanding performers for the track and field. Clyde contributed three wins for the women's team. She won the 60m dash in a new personal best (7.79), the 200m (25.79), and ran the third leg on the winning 4 x 400m relay.
Borke won the triple jump (37' 1 3/4"), was second in the long jump (18' 3") in addition to placing second in the 60m hurdles (9.33).
Freshman Rachel Pena earned her first collegiate win with a personal best throw in the shot put (40' 4 3/4") while Brooke Kohler won the pole vault (11' 3 3/4") equaling her personal best.
In addition to winning the 4x400m relay (4:04.84) the Leopards won the 4x800m (10:06.67). Adedayo Adu, Kathryn White, Clyde and Megan Matusky were the winning members of the 4x400m team while Kelly Senters, Allison Hawkey, Julissa Muschlitz and Sarah Welsh-Huggins made up the 4x800m team.
The Leopards also had some strong second place finishes from Rebecca Slotkin equaling Kohler's mark in the pole vault (11' 3 3/4"), Joelle Neilson in the triple jump (36' 1 1/2"), Adedayo Adu in the 400m (1:00.85) and Chelsea Marone in the 500m (1:20.47).
On the men's side, Juniors Nick DeRosa (Track) and Nick Henderson (Field) were named Lafayette's outstanding performers. DeRosa contributed a pair of wins in the 200m (22.80) and as a member of the 4x400m relay team. Henderson tied his personal best in the pole vault winning with a jump of 15' 3".
Ryan Stasiowski was Lafayette's other individual winner with a victory in the mile (4:21.54). Both relays also recorded wins. The 4x400m relay team of Nick Hepp, Ryan McVeigh, DeRosa and Bill Leonard won with a time of 3:27.43 while the 4x800m relay team of Chris Pregler, Derrick Hargwood, Matt Piazza and So. Dayne Mosconi ran 8:14.18 for the victory.
The Leopards earned a staggering six second place finishes. Jerome Rudolph kicked it off in the 60m (7.09), Ryan McVeigh in the 400m (52.07), Bill Leonard in the 500m (1:07.71), Derrick Hargwod in the 800m (1:58.68), Michael Thompson in the pole vault (14' 3 1/4") and Julian Delgado in the long jump (22' 7 1/4").
The Leopards return to action next week with the Men's & Women's 4x400m Relay team at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (at the NYC Armory). The rest of the Lafayette team will head to Lehigh for the John Covert Classic.
