EASTON, Pa. - Allison Stone netted her first career goal in the 29th minute, propelling Lafayette past Holy Cross 1-0 on Senior Day at Oaks Stadium. The Leopards extended their winning streak to five straight games, improving to 4-0-0 in Patriot League play as they remain atop the League standings.

"I had a feeling at halftime that Allison's goal was going to be imperative for us," head coach Mick Statham said. "Today was the most difficult conditions we have ever played in and it was important that we got on the board in the first half. In saying that, I thought we played better in the second half and showed great character to win the game."

Lafayette (9-3-1, 4-0-0 Patriot) took advantage of the wind at its back in the first half, controlling much of the play in the opening 45 minutes. Neither team recorded a shot in the first 20 minutes of action, until Stone tested Holy Cross keeper Carly McCabe, who kept the match scoreless in the 21st minute. The junior, Stone, broke the ice at the 28:13 mark following a Lafayette corner kick. Alex Reisinger sent a ball into the penalty area where a group of bodies battled in the air before the ball bounced to back to Stone. She then one-timed a shot past McCabe for the eventual game-winning goal.

In the second half, the Crusaders (2-10-2, 0-4-0 Patriot) had their share of chances to beat Lafayette keeper Lauren Smedley. In the 63rd minute, Sarah Kelley ripped a shot from 25 yards out that rung off the crossbar and was cleared away by the Lafayette defense. Smedley turned away four shots in the second half en route to her seventh shutout this season.

Smedley's shutout, the 19th of her career, moves her into a tie for 10th in Patriot League History with Lehigh's Erin Iwaskiewicz.

The Maroon and White held slight advantages in shots, 8-7, and corners 3-2. Additionally, Nicole Brownell was yellow carded in the 68th minute, the only booking in the match.

Lafayette finishes the regular season with a 6-0-0 home record, giving them the best home record ever and tying the program record for home wins, set in 1992 and matched in 1993 and 2000.

The Leopards have won five consecutive games and are now unbeaten in their last six contests, the second longest streak in program history.

Prior to the game the Lafayette women's soccer Class of 2012 was honored for their four years of commitment to the women's soccer program. The class consists of Julia Bell, Angela CampoBasso, Natalie Stone, Dana Moyer, Shannon Neschke, Janelle Pierson, Meredith McCann and Gina Milone.

Lafayette continues its League slate on Oct. 21 at Colgate. The game is the first of three road games to end the regular season and is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
