BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team competed at the historic Penn Relays and at the Lehigh Games this past weekend.
Sophomore Gwen Steckel finished 15th at Penn Relays in the women's discus throw with a throw of 134'11" while Alexandra Hunsberger also placed 15th in the women's javelin with a throw of 131'5".
The men's distance medley team of Dayne Mosconi, Nick Hepp, Chris Pregler and Ryan Stasiowski finished with a time of 10:17.11 for an 18th-place finish. Senior Matt Crystal finished 27th in the men's hammer throw at 163'6".
At the Lehigh Games, junior Greg Stripe and freshman Elise Buffinton took first place in the men's and women's pole vault over the weekend. Stripe had a jump 14'9" while Buffinton finished 10 centimeters under the ECAC qualifying mark at 11'9 3/4".
In the women's 800m run, Allison Hawkey placed first with a time of 2:15.71, while Sarah Welsh-Huggins finished second in the 1500m run clocking in at 4:43.62. On the men's side, Chris Parker placed fourth in the men's 800m at 1:54.08 and Derrick Hargwood coming in at 1:57.02 in seventh.
Lafayette hosts the 2011 Patriot League Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Metzgar Fields.
