BROOKYLN, N.Y. - After defeating LIU-Brooklyn early in the season in Easton, the Blackbirds held serve on their home court, defeating Lafayette 71-60 on Saturday afternoon at Wellness Center.

LIU-Brookyln's frontcourt of Julian Boyd (20 points, 10 reboudnds) and Jamal Olasewere (15 points, 11 rebounds) combined to score nearly half of the Blackbirds' points and rebounds en route to their 29th consecutive home victory. The tandem helped LIU outrebound the Leopards, 40-27. Lafayette's big men, Dan Trist and Levi Giese contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Seth Hinrichs added 10.

Trailing 17-14 following a layup by Olasewere, Lafayette (2-7) strung together a 12-0 run and held the Blackbirds scoreless for 7:24. The stretch included an old-fashioned three-point play by Giese, who led the Leopards with nine points in the first 20 minutes. Tony Johnson's jumper in the paint capped the spurt as Lafayette opened up a 28-20 lead with 4:35 to play before halftime.

LIU (2-4) went on to score the final five points of the half, as the Leopards went into the locker room with a 28-25 advantage. The Maroon and White knocked down five of their seven three-point attempts in the period, two by Giese, another pair by Ptasinski and one from Zach Rufer.

The Blackbirds came out to score the first 10 points at the beginning of the second half to take a 35-28 lead. For straight points by Dan Trist ended the run of 15 consecutive for the home team as Lafayette closed the deficit to 35-32.

The Leopards regained the lead at 40-39 and then extended it to 42-29 on a pair of Hinrichs free throws. Another bucket by Hinrichs tied the score at 45-45 with 8:33 to play, but Julian Boyd scored eight of the next 11 for LIU as the Blackbirds took a 56-48 lead with 3:44 remaining.

An Olasewere tip on a Boyd miss at the line gave LIU its largest lead to that point (10 points) a minute later, before Hinrichs hit a corner three to pull Lafayette within seven. The Leopards couldn't get any closer over the final 2:26 as LIU-Brooklyn held on for the 71-60 win.

Lafayette returns home to Kirby Sports Center on Tuesday, when it hosts St. Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by the Lafayette Sports Network and can be seen on RCN-4 & 1004 HD, RCN-8 & 608 HD, WBPH-60 and GoLeopards.com.
