Leopards Make Strides on Day Two of Indoor Championships

Lewisburg, Pa. - After two days of action in the Patriot League Indoor Championships at Bucknell University, the Lafayette men's and women's track and field squads both sit in fifth place overall.

Joelle Neilson provided one of the highlights of the meet by bringing home the team's first victory of the championships as she took the women's long jump crown with a leap of 18' 11.25''. Brittany Powell also competed in the event, taking 10th with a jump of 17' 4.75''.

In the women's weight throw, Gwen Steckel earned a seventh place mark while Rachel Pena placed eighth, as the pair tossed 51' 7.25'' and 51' 2.25'', respectively.

The women's 4x800 team of Grace Watters, Kelly Senters, Erin Mee and Sarah Welsh-Huggins qualified for the ECAC meet with a fifth place finish and a time of 9:23.17.

Senior Lauren Kelly crossed the line in the women's 5000m run in eighth place, clocking in at 18:17.32.

On the men's side, Jerome Rudolph ran the 60m dash in 6.88, taking first in the event and qualifying for the IC4A Championships. He followed that up with a 6.85 in the quarterfinals to place second.

Rudolph also came in second in the men's long jump as he leaped 23' 2'', earning him second place honors. With the jump, Rudolph landed in fifth on the all-time long jump list at Lafayette.

Nick DeRosa's time of 22.25 in the men's 200m dash earned him fifth while Nick Hepp placed eighth with a time of 22.40. Both times were good enough for tomorrow's finals.

The men's 4 X 800m relay team also came away with a top-three finish taking third in the event. The relay team of Chris Pregler, Dayne Mosconi, Matt Piazza and Chris Parker raced to a time of 7:39.93 and qualified for the IC4A Championships.

Moving up two spots on the day was Nick Carboni, who finished seventh in the final heptathlon standings after sitting in ninth place after yesterday's action. Carboni's best event today was his fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.96.

The action at the Patriot League Indoor Championships will conclude tomorrow beginning with the final field events of men's and women's pole vault, triple jump and shot put in the morning session. In the afternoon, the remaining track events of the mile run, 60m hurdles, 60m dash, 400m dash, 500m dash, 800m run, 1000m run, 200m dash, 300m run, DMR and the 4 X 400m relay will wrap up the championshops.
