Leopards' Defense Comes Up Short vs. Manhattan

March 12, 2012

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A strong pitching performance by Melissa Robinson went for naught as the Leopards committed four errors in a 1-0 loss to Manhattan on Monday in the fourth game of the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.

Robinson faced trouble early, with the bases loaded and just one out in the bottom of the second. However, two straight groundouts ended the Jaspers' scoring threat.

Lafayette's defense finally took a toll in the fourth when the Leopards committed two errors. Jen Keller reached base on an error and Amy Bright followed with a single, putting Keller in scoring position. The second miscue of the inning scored Keller for the only run of the game.

The Leopards left four on base in the game and were held to a pair of hits in the early-evening matchup. Gwen Turner singled in the third and Jordan Parsons followed with a base knock in the sixth. Only one Lafayette baserunner reached third during the game.

Robinson struck out three while scattering six hits to six different players. Manhattan (1-5) starter Kate Bowen also fanned three while walking two and allowing one hits. Kelsi Redding came on for the save, striking out three in two innings while allowing one hit.

Lafayette (0-4) returns to action Tuesday, playing Wagner at 1 p.m. and Howard at 3 p.m.
