JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Lafayette scored four runs on six hits in a 4-1 win in the first game, but in the nightcap a late rally fell short as St. Peter's split a Wednesday doubleheader, winning game two, 2-1.

In the opener, both teams got on the scoreboard in the third inning. Kristen Berger, who was 2-for-3 in the game and 4-for-7 in the doubleheader, led off with a single. Gwen Turner sacrificed her to second and Jordan Parsons finished off the scoring play with an RBI-single through the right side. The Peahens evened the score in the bottom half of the inning on Alexis Gallagher's run-scoring single.

The Leopards scored the go-ahead run in the fifth. Turner had a one-out single to left, and a two-base error on the play by the leftfielder put her at third. The senior leftfielder scored on a wild pitch to give Lafayette a 2-1 lead.

The Maroon and White closed the door in the seventh, padding their lead to 4-1. Lauren Murphy, who is hitting .364 over the last 10 games, drove in both runs with a two-out double to right center.

Melissa Robinson posted her 10th win of the season, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts. Tori Feorenzo was the loser, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with six walks in 6.1 innings.

In game two, Lafayette's late rally fell short as the Leopards left nine runners on base in a 2-1 setback.

St. Peter's (5-34) scored all of its runs in the third inning. Shelby Cogan single to Lafayette starting pitcher Alex Campanaro who committed a two-base error. Cogan scored on a fielder's choice. Feorenzo bunted home another run for the 2-0 lead.

Lafayette (11-26) could not break through in the runs column until the seventh inning despite putting a runner on third in three of the first four innings. Amy Gebhardt started things with a one-out single. Berger followed with a double but Gebhardt was cut down at the plate trying to score from first. On the play, Berger moved to third and eventually scored on Turner's (3-for-4) infield single.

Parsons slapped a shallow single that advanced the tying run, represented by Turner, to third base. Parsons then stole second, but the rally and the game ended when St. Peter's starter Shelby Beaver enticed Murphy into a ground out.

Beaver (2-13) allowed one run on nine hits in the win while Campanaro (1-9) gave up two runs on seven hits in the loss.

Lafayette returns to the conference circuit this weekend, travelling to third-place Army for a four-game Patriot League series. With eight Patriot League games remaining, the Leopards rest in fourth place in the conference standings and are in position to participate in the four-team field at Patriot League Tournament.
