Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. - St. Francis Brooklyn knocked down 11 threes and shot 51.1 percent from the field as they downed Lafayette, 74-52. The Terriers outscored the Leopards 41-22 in the second half. Lafayette dropped to 6-4, while St. Francis improved to 8-2.
Jamie O'Hare and Emily Homan led the way for the Leopards scoring 11 points apiece. Homan grabbed also grabbed a game-high eight boards for Lafayette. Eilidh Simpson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Terriers.
St. Francis opened up the game with back-to-back threes to take a 6-0 lead early on. Lafayette struggled from the field to start the game going 0-for-13 out of the gate. Two straight steals and layups from Madeline Fahan cut the deficit to five, 13-8 atwith 12 minutes to play in the half, but the Terriers pushed their advantage to eight, 20-12 at the under eight media timeout in the first half.
Jamie O'Hare knocked down her third three of the night to cut the lead to two, 23-21, at the 3:45 mark of the first half, but St. Francis was able to maintain its cushion over the final three minutes and went into the break leading, 31-28.
St. Francis opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 43-30 lead with 16:12 left in the second half. A three from Maddie Peabody slowed the run, but a triple from Jaymee Veney pushed the lead back to 13, 46-33 with 15 minutes to play.
After a pair of Terrier buckets, Ashley Lutz knocked down a three from the corner, followed by a Fahan steal and lay in, making it 50-38 with under 13 minutes on the clock. Katie Fox banked in a three for St. Francis, but Fahan answered again at the other end with a driving layup. Fox buried another three from the corner on the next possession to increase St. Francis' lead to 16, 56-40 at the 10:44 mark.
Lafayette and St. Francis exchanged buckets on the next two possessions, as Linnel Macklin knocked down a jumper and then found Emily Homan on the low block for a basket. Back-to-back layups from Peabody cut the lead to 15, 63-48 with 6:53 left to play.
The Terriers went on a 6-2 run over the next three minutes to increase their lead to 19, 69-50, with 4:11 on the clock. St. Francis maintained its advantaged and went on to beat Lafayette, 74-52.
Lafayette is back in action on Dec. 29 when they visit California in the Leopards final non-conference game of the season. Patriot League play starts on Jan. 2, as Lafayette visits Army, before returning home to take on Navy on Jan. 5.
