TOWSON, Md. - The Lafayette softball team closed its second weekend of play with a 2-1 loss to Towson on Sunday at the Towson Invitational.

As the visiting team on the scoreboard, the Tigers (10-10-1) led from the outset, scoring a run in the top of the first. Towson made the most of a pair of Lafayette errors. Delanie Dunham reached on fielding error and promptly stole second. She scored when Jillian Donnelly reached on a throwing error to give the hosts the early lead.

The Leopards (3-6) sent just one more batter than the minimum to the plate through the first three innings and finally broke through in the fourth. They manufactured the run, parlaying Jordan Parsons' lead-off walk into a game-tying sacrifice fly from Allison Thomas. A fielder's choice and Melissa Robinson's sac bunt accounted for the other movement on the base paths as Kelly Lallis, who pinch ran for Parsons, knotted the game at one. .

Towson made short order of the Leopards' advantage, re-capturing the lead in the top of the fifth. Olivia Yarbrough drew a lead-off walk and scored when Kelli Lyons doubled for the 2-1 margin.

Lafayette managed a baserunner in its final three at-bats but could not advance any of them past second base. Madeline Allen registered the Leopards' only hit of the afternoon in the seventh, a one-out single through the left side.

Robinson was charged with the loss, surrendering two runs (1 earned) on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Ambar Hickman (4-1) was the winner, allowing one run on one hit with three walks.

The Leopards return to action on Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Penn beginning at 1 p.m.
