EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette baseball has added Tanner Biagini to the coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Joe Kinney announced Friday.

"I am extremely excited to have Tanner join the Lafayette baseball coaching staff," Kinney said. "Tanner brings a wealth of experience both as a coach and as a player that will allow him to effectively interact with our student-athletes."

Most recently, Biagini volunteered as an assistant coach and camp director at the University of Richmond for the past three seasons. The Spiders made appearances in the Atlantic-10 conference tournament all three years he coached and competed in the A-10 title game in 2012. In 2013, he served as hitting coach and camp director for the Fayetteville Swampdogs of the Coastal Plain League. There, he coached six midseason All-Stars, three postseason All-Stars, and the team made a CPL playoff appearance in his only season there. Tanner's expertise is in camps and youth development, spending time as the head coach for the Greenville Senior Babe Ruth team and the RBA-West U15 National team, as well as participating as a camp instructor and speaker at various camps and clinics around the country.

"I want to thank Bruce McCutcheon, Coach Kinney and his staff for this opportunity to join the team at Lafayette College," Biagini said. "I played against Lafayette a few times in college and always respected how Coach Kinney ran his program. God has blessed me with a great chance to continue to coach the game I love. I am thankful for all the support I have always received from my family and friends along the way. I look forward to my first season here at Lafayette and am excited to be a Leopard."

In his playing days, Biagini was a four-year starting third-basemen for the Virginia Military Institute. He was a 2009-10 team captain as well as the 2009 Amateur Player of the Year for the Pitt County Hot Stove League. He was a 2008 First-Team Virginia SID All-State selection. In 2007, his team set the record for the highest win total in team history (34). In his senior season, the Keydets reached the highest national ranking in program history coming in at number 26 in the nation.

Biagini graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. At the conclusion of his college career, he became a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization and played for the Gulf Coast League Rays affiliate as an infielder and catcher in 2010 and the Hudson Valley Renegades in 2011, before moving on to Richmond.

Biagini is currently pursuing a Master's of Science in Psychology at the University of Phoenix.

Kinney, Biagini and the rest of the Leopards will look to improve upon a 15-26 overall mark a year ago when the season opens up at North Carolina Central on Feb. 20 in Durham, N.C. First pitch of the 2014 season is set for 3 p.m.
