EASTON, Pa. - The combination of Kash Manzelli at the plate and Anthony Parenti on the mound propelled Navy to a 6-0 victory over Lafayette in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Kamine Stadium.

Manzelli finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate, with three runs batted in and a double shy of the cycle, while Parenti (7-2) tossed a complete game shutout and struck out seven for the Midshipmen.

Lafayette starter Connor Ortolf picked up the first two outs of the ballgame on a groundout and a strikeout looking before Manzelli's single inside the right field line, plus a bobble in right field allowed him to move into scoring position. Navy's cleanup man, David Norman, took advantage of the opportunity with a single to right center that chased Manzelli in from second to put the visitors up 1-0.

Parenti sent the Leopards down in order in the home half of the first by getting a popup, groundout and Alex Woinski to fly out to the warning track. Parenti worked another 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts in the second after Ortolf worked around a two-out walk in the top of the frame.

The Midshipmen (17-19, 3-6 Patriot) added to their lead in the top of the third when Manzelli tripled home Robert Currie, who singled earlier in the inning, and Norman dropped a single into left field. Both base hits came with two outs and helped Navy secure a 3-0 advantage. With Norman on first, Drew Hayes reached on an infield single before Brandon Beans singled through the hole on the left side. Norman was waved home on the play, but a strike from Michael Coniglio in left field beat Norman to the plate where Parker Hills applied the tag for the final out.

In the fourth, Lafayette (8-17, 1-6 Patriot) had runners on first and second and two gone following Woinski's single to right and Parenti hitting Parker Hills with a pitch. Facing third baseman Tyler Hudson, the Navy starter got Hudson swinging to eliminate the threat and hold the three-run cushion.

Manzelli continued his strong day at the plate in the fifth with a two-run homer over the right field fence. The Navy first baseman turned on Ortolf's pitch and brought home Travis Blue, who registered a base hit in the previous at bat.

Ortolf's afternoon ended after 5 1/3 innings when a RBI single by Leland Saile extended Navy's lead to 6-0. The lefty took the loss (2-4) after giving up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Freshman right-handed Trevor Houck was chosen to relieve Ortolf and induced a 6-4-3 double play to finish the Navy portion of the sixth.

Houck and Parenti each kept the opposing offense off the board in the seventh as Navy came away with the 6-0 victory. Houck went 1 2/3 innings without giving up a base hit.
