Hamilton, N.Y. - The Leopards dropped a 1-0 decision to Colgate in Patriot League play on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. Lafayette moved to 0-2 in League play, while the Raiders improved to 2-0.
Lafayette had the first chance of the game in the sixth minute. Brittany Blass took a shot off a penalty corner, but Colgate was able to keep the ball out of the cage. In the 11th minute the Lafayette defense stopped Colgate's penalty corner to keep the game scoreless.
The Maroon and White threatened early in the second half with three penalty corners in the 39th minute. Colgate's Amanda DiDomizio was able to make a pair of saves before the Raiders cleared the danger. Lafayette's Amanda Magadan had a chance in the 43rd minute, but DiDomizio was there again to make the stop.
In the 53rd minute, Jenna Seybert fired a shot from the top of the circle, but Colgate was able to block the shot and clear. A minute later Katie Birle took a shot towards the Raider cage. DiDomizio was once again there to turn it away.
Colgate was able to take advantage of a flurry of penalty corners at the 60 minute mark. Jessica Gardiner's corner was stopped by Eliana Brown for Rebecca Libutti to fire into the cage from the top of the circle.
The Leopards earned a penalty corner as time expired, but were unable to convert and Colgate escaped with a 1-0 victory.
Lafayette held the advantage in both shots, 14-9, and penalty corners, 12-7. Jessica Deutsch made four saves in the loss, while DiDomizio turned away eight shots for the Raiders.
The Maroon and White return to action on October 4 at Holy Cross.
