EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's basketball head coach Fran O'Hanlon has announced senior Seth Hinrichs as the lone captain for the 2014-15 season. Hinrichs earned Third Team All-Patriot League honors a year ago and reprises his captaincy after teaming up with Jack Detmer '14 to lead the team last season.

"Leadership is the single most important characteristic in a successful program," O'Hanlon said. "I'm proud of the team for selecting Seth to lead them. He possesses all the qualities you look for in a captain, including an outstanding work ethic, strong commitment to the team and a terrific attitude."

Hinrichs, a Second Team All-League honoree in 2012 and an All-Rookie choice during his freshman campaign, was limited to 19 games in 2013-14 due to a left knee injury and sat out 11 games from mid December through late January, including the Leopards' first eight Patriot League contests. His return to the starting lineup during the second half of conference play ignited a turnaround in Lafayette's season. The Leopards went 6-3 with Hinrichs in the starting five after opening the League season with an 0-9 mark.

For the year, Hinrichs led Lafayette in scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg) and posted career-highs in both categories. The Clara City, Minn. native scored 28 points in back-to-back games against Yale (11/26) and Penn (11/30) and finished the regular season with 14 career 20-point games.

In Lafayette's victory over Lehigh, Hinrichs hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds to help Lafayette win the battle on the boards (34-29) and the game, 77-71. In Lafayette's first-ever victory at Sojka Pavilion, he posted his third-career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the 66-58 win over Bucknell.

Hinrichs was also recognized for his work in the classroom, when he was one of three Patriot League student-athletes selected to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District II First Team. Hinrichs carries a 3.35 grade-point average as an Economics major into his final year on College Hill.

Hinrichs became the 39th player in Lafayette history to reach the 1,000-point milestone with his 13-point effort in the Leopards' blowout win over Loyola (61-44) on Feb. 12. In addition to joining the club, he was the eighth player to eclipse 1,000 points during his junior season. Hinrichs completed the regular season with 1,067 points, good for 32nd place on the all-time scoring list.

The 2014-15 men's basketball season gets underway when the Leopards travel to Moon Township, Pa. to take on Robert Morris on Nov. 14.
