Easton, Pa. – A strong second half secured a 67-60 victory for the Lafayette women’s basketball team over visiting Boston University on Saturday afternoon. Emily Homan paced the Leopards with a game-high 23 points, as Lafayette evened its record in Patriot League play at 2-2.

The Leopards overcame a five-point halftime deficit, outscoring BU (3-12, 0-4) 35-23 in the second stanza. Lafayette turned it up on the defensive end in the second half, limiting the Terriers to just 29 percent shooting from the field.

Jamie O'Hare tallied 14 points and six assists, while Ashley Lutz secured a game-high 10 boards in the win. The Terriers were led by Mollie McKendrick and Sarah Hope who each scored 16 points.

Boston jumped out to an early 11-6 lead at the first media timeout, but the Leopards responded with an 8-2 spurt, highlighted by an O’Hare three-pointer, to take a 14-13 advantage midway through the first half. BU’s Sarah Hope knocked down back-to-back threes for the Terriers to give them a 19-16 lead.

Sammy Stipa buried a triple from the top of the key to maintain the Lafayette advantage, 23-19. BU scored the next eight points before Anna Ptasinski connected from distance to cut the deficit to one with four minutes to play in the half. The Terriers maintained their advantage and took a 37-32 lead into halftime. Boston shot 51.6 percent from the field to build its five-point lead.

In the second half, Linnel Macklin knocked down a three from the corner on the Leopards first possession. Macklin’s second three of the half at the 16-minute mark bumped Lafayette ahead, 43-42. After a pair of fast-break buckets from the Terriers, O’Hare fed Homan on the block for a score.

At the halfway mark of the second half, Homan knocked down 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to tie the game at 46. Maddie Peabody’s pull-up jumper from the elbow pushed the Leopards ahead. Boston answered with five straight points, including a banked three-pointer from the wing.

Ptasinski knocked down her second triple of the afternoon with six minutes left, followed by an O’Hare three to bump the Leopards ahead by five. A pair from the free throw line from Homan increased the lead to 60-53 with 3:30 on the clock.

The Terriers cut the Lafayette advantage to three with two minutes to play on a three from Clodagh Scannell. BU looked to pull within a point, but Ashley Lutz came up with a block at the 1:30 mark, grabbed the board and was fouled. She sank both of her free throws at the other end to extend the lead to 63-58.

After cutting the deficit to 63-60, Boston had a chance to again pull within a point or tie the game, but the Leopard defense forced a pair of turnovers in the final minute to secure the win and improve to 9-6 overall.

Lafayette visits Loyola on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. from Reitz Arena.

Homan scored in double figures for the 16th straight game.
