The Lafayette College Cross Country/Track & Field team is holding its annual fundraising challenge that runs alongside the Lafayette v. Lehigh Challenge. Last year's $10k in 10 Days was an incredible success, with Lafayette XC/T&F raising more than $13,000 from 167 donors. This year, the Maroon Club's Friends of Cross Country/Track & Field is raising the stakes, with a goal of $15,000 from over 200 donors.

The Challenge kicked off on Sunday, Nov. 15, with current members of the team conducting a phonathon, and will end on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 11:59 p.m. (EST). Gifts to Cross Country/Track & Field need to be made by halftime of the football game versus Lehigh to also count in the Lafayette v. Lehigh Challenge.

"We kicked off our campaign Sunday night with a phonathon, and contributions totaled close to $4,000 by the following morning," head cross country and track & field coach Michele Curcio said. "These gifts help our team in many different ways. They allow us to travel furthur south to begin the outdoor season, giving us better early spring performances, they aid in funding major equipment purchases and they help us return a larger group of student-athletes during the winter interim session. We are extremely grateful to everyone that takes part in this year's Challenge."

The Challenge also looks to match last year's efforts from the team and achieve 100% student-athlete participation. There are currently 80 men and women on the XC/T&F team. The Maroon Club's Friends of Cross Country/Track & Field are challenging alumni to double the amount of student-athlete donors during the challenge period with 160 alumni donors.

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, the Maroon Club's Friends of Cross Country/Track & Field have a goal of $50,000. Gifts to the Cross Country/Track & Field program support enhanced recruiting budgets, provide additional funding for assistant coaches' salaries, and supplement budgets for apparel, uniforms, equipment, and travel expenses. Maroon Club General gifts support the Oaks Leadership Academy, strength and conditioning programs, athletic training resources, the bi-annual Career Development Series, and other department-wide programs.
