FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior co-captain Bryce Scott and junior Monty Boykins led a three-point shooting clinic on Saturday afternoon at Sacred Heart, converting on a combined 14-for-21 from beyond the arc in a 90-86 win to close out the fall semester.

Lafayette as a team shot 60.0 percent from the field for the first time since its 89-64 win over Boston U. in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals this past March. Even more impressive was the Leopards' mark from downtown, hitting on 66.7 percent of their shots from long range.

Scott's eight three-pointers were a career-high for the senior, while Boykins connected on six to go along with a free-throw for a career-high 19 points on the day. Junior co-captain Nick Lindner and sophomore Matt Klinewski rounded out the four double-figure scorers with 15 points apiece, while freshman Auston Evans dropped in a season-high eight points, connecting on all four of his attempts from the floor.

The game opened with both teams trying to settle into the game as three turnovers between the two teams characterized a sloppy opening three minutes. A pair of triples from Boykins, though, gave Lafayette the early advantage with an 8-7 lead into the game's first media timeout at the 14:22 mark.

A third from the junior, followed by free throws from Lindner with 12:47 to play in the first put the Leopards on top by a 12-8 margin. A couple threes from Scott over the next four minutes helped move Lafayette's lead to six at the eight-minute mark, 22-16.

Lafayette's hot-shooting continued over the next couple of minutes as a third three from Scott pushed the advantage to nine, 27-18. The senior added yet another, his fourth of the half, at the three-minute mark and Evans finished through a foul with 1:26 to play to push Lafayette to its largest lead of the half, 13, 40-27. The Leopards would go on to close out the first 20 minutes with a 42-31 advantage into the break.

Sacred Heart's Matej Buovac came out of the intermission on fire, hitting on all three of his three-point attempts in the opening five minutes to cut the Lafayette lead to six at 52-46 with 15:33 to play. A Klinewski bucket in the paint pushed it back out to 10 a minute later, but Sacred Heart continued to threaten through the early half of the second stanza.

The Pioneers got it to as little as five, but a triple from Boykins at the 12:25 mark moved the edge back out to 11, 62-51. Another surge from the home side got it to a three-point game with 10 minutes left, but another big response from Scott on a three in the left corner made it 69-63 on the ensuing possession.

A blocked shot led to a run-out for Quincy McKnight, who finished an and-one to make it a two-point game with just over eight minutes to play. Then, Lindner drove the paint and kicked to Zalys for his first three of the contest, a big shot to kill momentum and inflate the edge to five, 75-70, with 7:15 on the clock.

Boykins' sixth three of the game moved the lead out to a more comfortable nine, 81-72, with 4:38 to play as Lafayette looked to have gained control. However, two buckets back from the Pioneers made it a five-point game again at 81-76 with 2:30 left.

Lindner went one-of-two from the free-throw line on the next possession, but a high-low play for an easy bucket from Tevin Falzon to Buovac cut the lead to four at 82-78 with 1:40 to go. Another one-of-two from the line from Lindner left the game within grasp as free throws from Chris Robinson made it a one-possession game with 1:17 to play.

With 49 seconds on the clock, Lindner's step-back jumper pushed it back to five, but an answer on a drive and finish from McKnight made it 85-82 with 40.3 seconds on the clock. Lindner came back with a pair of free throws on the next possession, but a put-back bucket from Falzon kept the Pioneers within grasp, making it 87-84 with 13.4 seconds to play.

Out of a timeout, Lindner went back to the line with 12.7 on the clock for a pair. The junior made the first and missed the second, while Robinson was able to get a bucket and Sacred Heart fouled Lindner again with 1.4 seconds remaining. This time, the junior converted on both, making it a two-possession game at 90-86. Cane Broome's last-second heave was off the mark and Lafayette slipped away with a much-needed victory.

Lafayette now enters a stretch of 10 straight days without a game as finals become the priority. The Leopards' next contest is a cross-country matchup with USC on Dec. 23. Tipoff in that one is slated for 4 p.m. ET.
