PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead but 10 straight Temple goals through the midway point of the game was the difference in a 17-7 loss on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa.

Sophomore Kirsten Wilhelmsen added to her team-leading point total on the season with three goals and an assist on the day, while classmate Ashley Tedesco tallied two goals, and junior Melissa Galione and sophomore Charlotte Rath chipped in with a goal apiece. Eleven different players recorded a goal for Temple, led by three from Nicole Tiernan.

The Owls' 19-7 edge in draw controls was the difference, leading to a 36-17 advantage in shots. Lafayette held the upper hand in ground balls, 17-13, but were just 12-for-19 on clears and could not convert on its only free-position shot of the day.

Two of the first three goals of the game went Temple's way off the sticks of Tiernan and Kathryn Skahan, but three straight from the Leopards, one each from Rath, Tedesco and Galione, put the Maroon and White in front, 4-2, with 10:49 to play in the first half. However, 10 straight goals over the final 10:40 of the first half and the first 7:23 of the second half opened the game up in Temple's favor, leading 12-4 with 22:37 to play.

Tedesco stopped the run at the 18:52 mark of the second with her second goal of the day, but four of the final six markers went to the Owls as Temple finished off the game with a final score of 17-7.

Next up for Lafayette is the second leg of a two-game road trip, traveling to Binghamton on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start.
