CHARLESTON, S.C. - Lafayette had no answer for The Citadel offense on Sunday, dropping the third and final game of a weekend series at Riley Park by a score of 16-2.
The Citadel (10-7) pounded out 18 hits and drew nine walks against the Lafayette pitching staff, using a pair of six-run innings to build an insurmountable lead. The Leopards fell to 1-6 with the loss.
Lafayette actually took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to four hits off of Citadel starter Austin Livingston. Junior third baseman Tyler Hudson singled home freshman shortstop Steven Cohen for the first run before scoring himself on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Parker Hills.
The Citadel, however, went on to score the game's final 16 runs. The Bulldogs tallied one run in both the second and third innings before using six hits - two of which were home runs - to plate six runs in the fourth. They followed the same pattern with one in the sixth, one in the seventh and six more in the eighth.
Stephen Windham and Philip Watcher each tallied three hits for The Citadel, while Connor Walsh scored four runs. Livingston earned his first win, allowing two runs on six hits and four strikeouts over five innings pitched.
Lafayette starter Trevor Houck took the loss to fall to 0-2. The Leopard offense collected 10 hits in the game, with Hudson, junior left fielder Andrew Landolfi and senior Rob Caliento notching two hits apiece.
The Leopards will visit Charleston Southern University on Tuesday before heading back home to Easton. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
