BOSTON, Mass. -- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team came out strong, holding an 8-5 lead into the halftime break, but gave up nine of 12 second-half markers to fall on the road at Boston U. on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 14-11.

Sophomore Kirsten Wilhelmsen was a force, scoring six goals on seven shots, with five coming in the opening half. She currently sits in fifth in the Patriot League rankings in scoring at 2.5 markers per contest.

Classmate Amanda Case added three goals on the day, while fellow sophomores Maggie Carver and Charlotte Rath put in one apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Anna Raymond made seven saves on the afternoon on 37 shots faced.

The Terriers held a hefty advantage in shots, 37-21, and owned both the draw control and ground ball battles by 17-10 and 18-6 margins, respectively. Mallory Collins led the Boston U. attack with four goals, while Lindsay Weiner, Taylor Hardison and Ally Adams each tallied a pair of scores.

On a blustery day in Boston, the Leopards started on fire, scoring the first three goals of the contest in the opening four minutes, forcing an early Terrier timeout. The home team finally got on the board at the 23:03 mark, but Case responded to put the Leopards up 4-1 with 21:43 to play in the first.

The Terriers' Sofia Robins beat Raymond with 7:31 to play in the half to cut the Leopards' lead to just two at 6-4. However, Lafayette answered and moved the game into the intermission with an 8-5 lead.

Unfortunately, momentum immediately shifted toward Boston U. as the second half began. After an early goal from Wilhelmsen made it 9-6 Leopards, the Terriers went on a three-goal run to tie the game at nine with 22:05 remaining.

A goal from Rath put Lafayette back in front, 10-9, but another run from Boston U., this time of the four-goal variety, pushed the home team into control with its first lead of the game and a three-goal advantage, 13-10, with 11:23 left. The teams traded tallies over the final 10 minutes and the Leopards could not complete the comeback, falling by a final score of 14-11.

With the loss, the Leopards drop to 2-10 overall on the year and 1-4 in Patriot League action. Boston U. improves to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Leopards return to Fisher Stadium for their final two home games of the season this week. Lafayette will host Saint Mary's for Senior Day on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., and welcomes American on Saturday for a 4 p.m. opening draw.
