THIS WEEKEND: The Leopards will travel to Annapolis, Md., for a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders against Navy this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's action will begin at noon, while Sunday's twin bill will begin at 1 p.m. The first game of each doubleheader will be a seven-inning game, while the second game each day will be nine innings. Live stats for each game will be available via Gametracker at the links above.
CBS SPORTS NETWORK: Be sure to tune in to CBS Sports Network on Sunday afternoon to catch the Leopards as they are televised live to a national audience beginning at 1 p.m. Brent Stover and Brandon Tierney will be the announce team, and Lafayette head coach Joe Kinney is scheduled to do an interview from the dugout in the middle of the fourth inning. CBS Sports Network is channel 221 on DirecTV and channel 158 on Dish Network, but be sure to check your local cable provider's listings. Game two on Sunday will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
REIGNING PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Two Leopards were honored by the Patriot League this week for their key performances in the four-game sweep of Army last weekend. Junior center fielder Michael Coniglio was named the conference Player of the Week after going 9-for-15 (.600) with six runs scored and four in the series. He had at least two hits in each of the four games, and also had an RBI or run scored in each contest. Over his last six games, he has raised his season batting average from .129 to .283.
Freshman shortstop Steven Cohen had a pair of strong games in the series to earn his second Rookie of the Week nod of the season. He went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and three RBIs in a 12-3 victory in Saturday's nightcap before leading the Leopards to an 8-7 win in Sunday's opener with a pair of home runs and three RBIs in the contest. Cohen currently leads the team in batting average, hits, doubles and home runs.
LAST TIME OUT: The Leopards completed a four-game sweep of Army last weekend -- their first sweep of a Patriot League opponent since their 2007 championship season. The win in game one snapped a 19-game losing streak to the Black Knights that dated back to 2011. The Leopards collected 47 hits in the series to raise their team batting average by 35 points. Lafayette dropped a non-conference game to St. Joe's on Tuesday that was called in the top of the seventh inning due to rain.
SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN: Navy enters the series with a record of 23-12 overall, and the Midshipmen sit second in the Patriot League with a 5-3 mark. Navy swept Bucknell two weeks ago before dropping three out of four to Holy Cross last weekend.
Navy is at or near the top of the conference rankings in all three areas of statistics. They are tied for first with Navy with a .281 team batting average, they lead the league with a 2.83 ERA, and they are second in the league with a .964 fielding percentage.
The Midshipmen boast the Patriot League's best hitter and best pitcher, statistically. From the mound, Luke Gillingham leads the nation with 86 strikeouts, ranks second in WHIP (0.63), third in hits per nine (4.30) and 15th in ERA (1.07). Sean Trent is their best hitter, as he paces the conference with a .428 batting average and 13 doubles. He also has tallied 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
LEOPARDS IN THE STATISTICAL RANKS: The Leopards have gotten impressive performances so far from their pitching staff. Sophomore David Bednar leads the team with a 2.67 ERA and a .200 opposing batting average. Those numbers rank fifth and third, respectively, in the Patriot League. Freshman John Cain ranks second in the league -- and 50th nationally -- in strikeouts per nine innings with a mark of 10.71. Bednar and senior Toby Schwartz are each fanning 9.49 batters per nine to tie for fifth in the conference. Also noteworthy is junior reliever Ryan Callanan's strikeout-to-walk ratio of 12.00, which leads the conference and ranks 26th in the nation.
From the plate, the Leopards have specialized in the sacrifice bunt. Junior Jackson Kramer (1st), senior Tim Lazor (2nd) and sophomore Alex Woinski (4th) all rank in the top four of the Patriot League in sacrifice bunts per game. Kramer's average of 0.32 ranks him 18th in the country. Speaking of Kramer, the second baseman is on a hot streak entering this weekend's action. Over his last six games, the junior has gone 7-for-15 with five runs scored, five doubles and 10 RBIs.
SENIOR CLASS AWARD: Congratulations are in order for senior relief pitcher Cory Spera, who was recently selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the Senior CLASS Award, which honors NCAA baseball student-athletes who excel both on and off the diamond. Candidates must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select ten finalists in late April. Those ten names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. MOTHER NATURE: The Leopards have had a league-high 12 games cancelled due to weather and field conditions, and have played just 21 times. By comparison, Navy has already played 35 times.

NEXT TIME OUT: Lafayette will play host to Rutgers on Tuesday in a non-conference contest. First pitch at Kamine Stadium is set for 3:30 pm.
