HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team fell behind early and Colgate never looked back as the Raiders officially eliminated the Leopards from postseason contention with a 16-6 win on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y.
Finishing Patriot League play at 2-6, the loss drops Lafayette to 4-12 on the year overall with one game to play, a non-conference battle with Iona. Five different Leopards found the scoring column as Charlotte Rath, Kirsten Wilhelmsen, Amanda Case (twice), Charlotte Avallone and Katie Elander recorded markers.
Colgate stepped on the gas right from the get-go, tallying four goals in less than three minutes to open the game with a 4-0 advantage, forcing an early Lafayette timeout. Out of the break, Rath worked her way past a defender to get the Leopards on the board, but two more back from the Raiders made it 6-1 with 24:48 to play in the first half.
Colgate would add five more tallies over the next 11 minutes to move the game into a 10-goal difference with an 11-1 lead at the 13-minute mark. Wilhelmsen beat a defender and marked her first tally of the afternoon with just over a minute to play in the first and moved the game into the break with a halftime score of 12-2.
The second half saw much of the same for both sides as the Raiders added a pair of tallies and their defense stood strong over the first 15 minutes to take a 14-2 edge through the midway points of the second 30 minutes.
Case snuck in her first goal of the afternoon and the Leopards' first goal of the second half at the 13-minute mark of the second stanza to bring the score to 15-3, but with the clock running the remainder of the half, the Raiders ran the clock out on a 16-6 victory for the home side.
The Raiders held a 31-20 advantage in shots and a 19-10 advantage in ground balls, while draw controls were knotted at 12 apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Anna Raymond finished off her first Patriot League season with nine saves on the afternoon.
With the loss, the Leopards are officially eliminated from a chance at a postseason berth. Lafayette finishes up its 2015 campaign on Saturday, traveling to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Iona at 1 p.m.
