April 20, 2015 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Lafayette junior Campbell Lipe was announced as the Corvias Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Leopards to a series win over Bucknell this past weekend.
Lipe went 7-for-13 (.538) with four doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs as Lafayette won three of four games at Bucknell to move one win away from clinching a berth in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2012. The designated hitter/first baseman posted two hits in three of the four contests, beginning with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored in a 4-2 victory in the opener. After recording a pair of doubles in a 3-1 loss in Saturday's nightcap, Lipe went 3-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs to lead Lafayette to a sweep on Sunday. The Winnetka, Ill., native had two runs scored and two RBIs as the Leopards won the series finale by a 7-4 score. Lipe is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak, and batted .421 (8-for-19) in five games overall last week.
Lipe is the second Leopard to garner Player of the Week honors this season following Michael Coniglio's honor from April 6th. Freshman Steven Cohen has twice been named the Rookie of the Week.
Senior pitcher Toby Schwartz got his second straight honorable mention from the league this week after he gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits in a seven-inning complete game victory on Sunday.
Lafayette returns to action this Wednesday with a road contest at Monmouth that is set to be broadcast on ESPN3 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
