April 27, 2015 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Lafayette senior Toby Schwartz was announced as the Corvias Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing a complete-game shutout to defeat Lehigh on Sunday.
Schwartz was outstanding in Lafayette's 3-0 win over the Mountain Hawks as he went the full seven innings and allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out nine in the contest. He had at least one strikeout in five of his frames, and stranded runners on base with an inning-ending strikeout four times with two instances where runners were in scoring position. The Ramsey, N.J., native earned his third victory and threw his second complete game, not including a 10-inning performance against Navy earlier in the season. He also batted .300 in four games last week while drawing five walks.
Schwartz is the first Leopard to garner Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Campbell Lipe and Michael Coniglio have each been named the Player of the Week once earlier this year, while Steven Cohen has twice been named the Rookie of the Week.
Lafayette returns to action this Wednesday and Thursday with home contests against Rider and Maine. Both games will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network beginning at 3:30 p.m.
