EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette baseball team lost a rain-shortened, non-conference contest against Saint Joseph's on Tuesday at Kamine Stadium by a score of 8-6.
The action was halted with two outs in the top of the seventh when the rain began, and the game was called shortly thereafter. Lafayette saw its four-game winning streak come to an end and its record fell to 6-15, while St. Joe's improved its record to 10-14.
St. Joe's designated hitter Deon Stafford was the difference maker, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He led off the first inning with a single and scored the game's first run, before adding a solo home run in the third. He then delivered a two-run double in the decisive fifth inning when the Hawks plated four runs to turn a 6-3 deficit into an 8-6 lead.
For Lafayette, second baseman Jackson Kramer continued his hot streak by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Over his last six games, the junior has gone 7-for-15 with five runs scored, five doubles and 10 RBIs. Sophomore Alex Woinski recorded his first multi-hit performance of the year by going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI double.
On the mound, Hawks reliever Dominic Cuoci was credited with his first victory, while Tim McCarthy earned his first save. Senior reliever Cory Spera took the loss for the Leopards after allowing four runs in 3.2 innings, though all were unearned. Freshman Brendan Ball made his first career start for Lafayette and pitched three-plus frames.
Lafayette is scheduled to travel to Penn State on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
