EASTON, Pa.. -- Lafayette received stellar play from rookie Brooke Wensel in the second game, as the shortstop drove in a run and made two stops deep in the hole to help keep the Wagner offense in check in a 5-1 Leopard victory.

Classmate Stacy Gordon (1-0) earned the victory in her first career start, giving up only three hits in seven innings while walking two and striking out two. She allowed just one baserunner in the final four innings.

Wagner scored its only run in the second. Brenda Bott hit a two-out double and later scored on Erica Krumbine's single for the one-run advantage.

That lead lasted until the fourth. With two outs in the inning, Samantha Sweigart and Allison Brown kept things going with singles. Wensel tied the game, shooting a ball through the right side to score Sweigart. Wagner gifted the Leopards another run when the catcher tried to pick off Wensel at first and the throw bounded into foul territory, allowing Brown to score.

Lafayette never trailed the rest of the way. In the fifth, Sweigart came up with the biggest hit of the game, finishing off a 2-for-3 day with two RBI's when she singled to centerfield with the bases loaded. Lafayette led 4-1.

The Maroon and White added an insurance run in the sixth. Brooke Wensel (2-for-3) and Maddie Wensel started off the inning with doubles, but Brooke was unable to score on Maddie's two-bagger, having to hold to see if the ball was caught. Brooke eventually scored when Wagner starter Morgan Brown uncorked a wild offering for the 5-1 advantage.

Gordon and the Lafayette defense retired the Seahawks (8-10) in order in the top of the seventh. Brown was the loser, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Lafayette (5-8) begins a six-game spring break swing with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Howard.
