WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lafayette scored at least two runs in three innings, leading to a 10-6 win over Howard in the second game of a Wednesday doubleheader at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
After spotting Howard (4-18) three runs in the home half of the first, Lafayette scored five of its own to take the lead for good. Miranda Skurla and Rebecca Dvorak each drove in a run and Jenna Orlando (2-for-3) plated two more. Orlando also helped the fifth run of the inning score, attempting to steal second on a first and third situation which allowed Jenna Didio to score.
The Leopards added two more in the fifth and three in the seventh to finish off the Bison. Maddie Wensel continued with her hot bat, tripling in a run while classmate Brooke Wensel plated the other with a sac fly in the fifth. In the seventh, Allison Brown (3-for-4) doubled in two and Skurla scored the final run on a groundout in the 10-6 final.
Stacy Gordon (2-0) captured her second win in as many starts. She gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Alex Flynn (1-6) was the loser, allowing seven runs on nine hits.
Lafayette (6-9) continues its six-game spring break swing with a doubleheader at George Washington on Wednesday at noon.
