EASTON, Pa. - Hosting its annual 7-Way Meet under perfect weather conditions at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex, Lafayette's men's and women's track & field squads combined to take first place in nine events on Saturday afternoon.
A 1-2-3 result from Devin Smith, Erin Keen and Drew Davis in the 100-meter dash highlighted the day for the women, who earned 150 points en route to a second place showing. Mike Moralle, meanwhile, posted an IC4A qualifying distance of 192' 2" to win the javelin for the men, who tallied 98 points for a third-place finish overall.
The men's and women's hammer throws kicked off the competition on Friday afternoon. Patrick Corcoran (180' 6") and Dave McGriff (176' 10") each set new PRs with their IC4A qualifying tosses to place second and third, respectively. Corcoran's throw was the fourth-furthest in program history, while McGriff's was seventh. McGriff then added 10 points to the Leopards' team score with a winning throw of 170' 2" in the discus on Saturday.
The other first-place result for the men also came in the field, as Michael Thorne matched his outdoor personal best by clearing 14' 5 1/4" in the pole vault. On the track, Thomas Day earned six points for the Maroon and White after placing third in the 1500m (4:08.80), while the 4x100m relay squad of Marcus Vilme, Michael Smitelli, Preston Bejabeng and Steven Young took second place with a time of 43.47.
After setting a new PR of 142' 3" with her third-place finish in the hammer on Friday, Laura Oh registered a first place result in the shot put and a runner-up performance in the discus on Saturday. Oh's top throw in the shot put was 39' 6 1/2", allowing her to top Lehigh's Nia Baker by half of an inch, while she recorded a throw of 122' 11" in the discus.
The first of five wins on the track for the women came in the meet-opening 4x100m relay. Drew Davis, Erin Keen, Casey O'Brien and Devin Smith combined to cross the line in 48.93. Emily Moore (11:37.54) then topped teammate Morgan Nobles by nearly 40 seconds to take first place in the 3000m steeplechase, registering the seventh-fastest time in program history in the process.
Stephanie Benko claimed first place in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 4:43.36, while Tessa Broholm (1:04.65) topped the field in the 400m hurdles. In the 100 dash, Smith (12.51) edged out Keen (12.54) in the final heat, while Davis took third after winning the opening heat with a time of 12.79.
Kelly Reager (2:19.04 - 800m) and Mara Blanchard (10' 8" - pole vault) added runner-up performance for Lafayette, while Caroline Harmon placed third in the 5000m (18:42.06).
The Leopards will be back at Metzgar in two weeks, hosting Lehigh in the annual outdoor dual meet between the two rivals on April 9.
