BETHLEHEM, Pa. --A four-run fourth inning provided all of the offense Lehigh needed in a 4-1 final in Patriot League softball action on Sunday.
The Leopards were first to get on the scoreboard on the brisk Sunday afternoon. In the third inning, Miranda Skurla doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Jenna Orlando single to right that included an error by the rightfielder. Skurla and Brooke Wensel were both 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
In the fourth, Jessica Calvini doubled in two runs and Lehigh (19-7, 3-0) manufactured two more on a squeeze bunt and a sac fly to lead 4-1.
The Leopards loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth. Emily Sorem struck out Orlando and then got two groundouts to end the inning with the three-run lead intact.
Sorem (8-4) retired the Leopards in order in the sixth and walked a batter in the seventh, but held Lafayette scoreless down the stretch. She struck out five and walked one over seven innings. Stacy Gordon (2-2) took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Lafayette (6-16, 0-3) gets back to action in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Drexel at 3 p.m.
