Box Score Game 1 | Box Score Game 2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Allison Brown's two-run home run in the third inning of game one proved to be the difference in a 3-1 Leopard softball win over Drexel on Wednesday.

The teams traded runs in the first inning. With two runners aboard and one out, Brown drove in her first run of the day with a single that scored Jenna Orlando (single).

In the bottom of the inning, three singles, the final one by cleanup hitter Kristi Uyesaka, tied the game at 1-1. The Dragons had the bases loaded, but Lafayette starter Stephanie Thomas got a lineout for the second out of the inning and then struck out Sharon Zamora to keep the tie intact.

Samantha Sweigart led off the third with a single. Two batters later, Brown's second home run of the season handed Lafayette a 3-1 advantage.

Thomas (2-8) allowed just three hits over the final five innings in her second victory of the season, a win that snapped a seven-game team losing streak. Thomas struck out three and walked just one while giving up five hits on the afternoon. T.L. Lee (5-5) took the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.

Drexel (15-15) bounced back to take the nightcap 9-1 behind a three-hit performance by Tara Konopka (6-7). Konopka fanned five while holding Lafayette to one run on three hits in the five-inning game.

The game was scoreless through three and a half innings as the Leopards left four runners on in that span.

Drexel broke open the contest with eight runs in the home half of the fourth. The Dragons sent 13 batters to the plate and managed had six hits in the inning. Bryn Gornick came in to relieve Lindsey Cherry (1-3) after the first eight batters of the inning reached base. Uyesaka was the first batter Gornick faced and doubled in two runs. The inning came to an end after a 1-2 groundout for the first out of the inning followed by an inning-ending lineout.

The Leopards scored their only run in the fifth. Morgan Biddle tripled and scored on a Sweigart's groundout to make it 8-1. In the bottom of the inning, Drexel got its run back as Paula Ueno doubled in the game-clinching ninth run.

Cherry allowed eight runs (six earned) on six hits while walking four in three innings. Gornick was charged with one run on three hits in an inning and two-thirds.

Lafayette (7-17) next hosts Bucknell in a three-game Patriot League weekend series. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon.
