PRINCETON, N.J. - A total of five Lafayette track & field members earned All-East distinction at this weekend's three-day ECAC/IC4A Championship meet which concluded at Princeton on Sunday.
The women's 4x400-meter relay foursome of Kelly Reager, Drew Davis, Erin Keen and Devin Smith posted a season-best time of 3:45.20 in the preliminary round on Saturday to qualify for the finals, and they earned fifth place during today's race after crossing the line in 3:48.53. Their preliminary time was the second-fastest in school history, behind only Lafayette's Patriot League title-winning mark of 3:42.67 in 2015.
Dave McGriff was also named All-East after cracking the top eight in the discus on Saturday. He managed a top effort of 165' 11" to place sixth out of 28 competitors. The Flemington, N.J., native, who won the Patriot League title in the discus last Saturday, will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the NCAA East Regional Meet later this month.
In addition to his top-eight result in the discus, McGriff moved up to fifth in program history in the hammer, throwing a personal best toss of 180' 5" to take 14th place, just ahead of teammate Patrick Corcoran (178' 1") in 17th.
Sixteen Leopards in all participated in this weekend's prestigious regional meet after qualifying at various points during the outdoor season. Smith wrapped up her storied collegiate career with a 17th-place showing in the 400m, finishing the race in 55.63. Stephanie Benko also concluded a successful outdoor season which saw her claim her second individual conference title in the 3000m steeplechase, placing 18th in that event on Friday with a time of 11:08.07.
Lafayette's men's 4x100m relay squad of Marcus Vilme, Michael Smitelli, Preston Bejabeng and Jarrel Bobb registered a season-best time of 42.17 to finish in 10th place this weekend. Bobb, Mike Moralle and Thomas Day additionally competed in their final individual events for the Maroon and White. Bobb (22.10) took 21st in the 200m, Moralle (176' 10") was 15th in the javelin and Day (9:24.43) placed 24th in the steeplechase.
Cornell edged out James Madison to claim first place in the women's ECAC Championships, while Morgan State beat out Cornell for first place in the men's IC4A competition.
