BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lafayette men's soccer team did all it could on Saturday afternoon to keep its Patriot League Tournament hopes alive, but a 21st-minute goal from Loyola was all the scoring as the Leopards ended their season in Baltimore, Md.
Loyola, which clinched its first-ever regular-season championship with the victory, got everything it could handle from Lafayette, which needed a win and help to push for a tournament bid. Instead, the Leopards end the season with a 1-0 defeat, finishing 3-6 in Patriot League action.
Senior goalkeeper Brad Seeber played well between the pipes, making five saves, including four in the second half, over 90 minutes. On the other side, Chase Vosvick stopped four Leopard shots on goal, one apiece from sophomores Chris Gomez, Ryan Goncalves and James Gibson, and senior captain Christian Moyse.
The goal originated in the middle of the field as Loyola's Barry Sharifi played a ball out wide to Jake Campbell, who crossed it into the box. Campbell's ball found Brian Saramago in front of goal, who finished past Seeber for the lone tally.
Shots were 10-9 in favor of the home side, while Lafayette earned one corner to Loyola's three. The Leopards were also called for 19 fouls compared to 11 for the Greyhounds.
The game marked the final time Lafayette's four seniors will don the Maroon and White. Lafayette and the men's soccer program thanks Seeber, Moyse, Brian Ehrlich and Will Feldman for their contributions to the program and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
