LEWISBURG Pa. -- Bucknell scored four runs in the first three innings to capture the second half of Saturday's Patriot League doubleheader 4-0 over Lafayette at Becker Field.
In the bottom of the first, Meghan Kovac singled in a run. The hosts added two more in the second on Marisa Alemany's single to centerfield. Bucknell (17-5, 2-0) stretched the advantage to 4-0 in the third inning by bunting home a run.
Lafayette had its best scoring coach in the top of the fourth. Jenna Orlando led off the inning with a bunt single. A groundout and wild pitch placed her at third base with one out, but Bucknell starter Lara Bean struck out Brooke Wensel and enticed Addison Goldwait into a groundout to end the threat.
Bean (7-2) held Lafayette (1-9, 0-2) to three hits (all singles), stranding four runners during the game. Lafayette starter Stacy Gordon (1-3) gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in the loss. Stephanie Thomas came on in relief and did not allow any hits in the final two innings.
The two teams will be back at it on Sunday with the first pitch being moved up to 11 a.m. to beat potential inclement weather.
