UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team compiled 10 hits, but was unable to manufacture enough runs, ultimately falling 9-2 to Penn State in a non-conference road game on Wednesday night at Medlar Field.

The game against the Nittany Lions (14-26) marked the second time this month that the Leopards (3-42) faced a Big Ten opponent. Nine different Lafayette players recorded a hit, including Alex Woinski, who had a pair of base knocks and also scored one of the team's two runs.

It was a rocky start for the Leopards who found themselves in a 4-0 hole after Penn State plated four in the bottom of the first. However, the Maroon and White cut the Nittany Lions' lead in half when they came up to hit in the second.

Luke Robinson and Woinski recorded back-to-back singles to begin the inning and after advancing a base on a Penn State error, both came in to score on a Trey Durrah two-RBI single to center.

While the Leopards struggled to get runners in scoring position after the second, the Nittany Lions put up five unanswered runs to extend their lead to seven, 9-2, over the next six frames.

In the ninth, the Leopards loaded the bases with two outs as Brandon Posivak walked, Drew Jansen singled and Mark Glover notched a base hit, but Penn State got out of the jam and captured the non-conference victory.

Lafayette will return to the diamond this weekend when the Leopards open up a four-game set with Holy Cross beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday slated to begin at noon at Kamine Stadium.
