WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Lafayette softball team closed out the 2017 campaign with a 5-0 loss at Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.
The Crusaders (13-28, 8-10) scored three runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Emily Krisanda (2-for-3) doubled home the first two runs and Taylor Moss (2-for-3) singled in another off Lafayette starter Stephanie Thomas.
In the fifth, Moss plated a run with an RBI-single before head coach Jexx Varner went to the bullpen for Stacy Gordon. Savannah Young's sac fly in the inning stretched the Holy Cross advantage to 5-0.
The Leopards had their best scoring chance in top of the seventh. Candace Fields led off with a single, but the next two batters were retired by Holy Cross starter Katy Watson. Samantha Sweigart extended the inning with a single to right before Mallory Kane grounded out to third base to end the game.
Thomas allowed five runs on 4.1 innings while striking out one. Gordon and Lindsey Cherry combined to pitch the final two innings and did not give up a hit. Watson collected the win, scattering six hits while striking out four and walking two.
Lafayette finishes the season at 13-28 overall and 5-12 in Patriot League play.
