EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette used a strong pitching performance from Alexis Randall and timely hitting by Miranda Skurla and Malori Pojar to secure a 3-0 win in the night cap of Saturday's Patriot League doubleheader vs. Colgate.

Prior to game one, which Colgate claimed 8-5 in extra innings, Lafayette softball honored the four members of the Class of 2018: Morgan Biddle, Rebecca Dvorak, Miranda Skurla and Samantha Sweigart.

It was Sweigart (2-for-3) who sparked the offense for much of the afternoon, registering a pair of hits in each game. In game two, she go aboard via an infield single and later scored on an error. Skurla followed with a two-out single that gave Lafayette a 2-0 lead.

Facing Randall (3-13), Colgate never really threatened. She gave up just two hits (singles in the third and sixth innings) over seven while striking out two and walking one.

The Leopards added an insurance run in the fifth when Brooke Wensel scored on a Pojar single to push the final to 3-0.

Bella Crow (3-11) took the loss, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts.

As in game two, Lafayette wasted no time grabbing the lead in game one. Sweigart ripped a pitch into the gap in right center for a stand-up double and the next batter, Paige Grover blasted her sixth home run of the season for the 2-0 lead.

Colgate got one run back in the top of the second on a Sabrina Odierno single before Leopard starter Hannah Cook stranded runners at first and second.

The Leopards had a chance to extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth, placing two runners in scoring position with no outs. Maddie Wensel ripped a double down the third-base line and Pojar followed with a single. Pojar took second on a stolen base before Colgate starter Jessica Hay retired the next three batters with a strikeout, groundout and flyout to keep it a 2-1 game going into the seventh.

Colgate's Christiana Cottrell singled to lead off the top of the seventh, stole second and grabbed an extra bag when the throw was dislodged and trickled into the outfield. Colgate followed with a pair of bloop singles to right, including a two-RBI knock from Baillie Jorth, to grasp a 5-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs and Sweigart (HBP) and Brooke Wensel (single) aboard, Maddie Wensel tied the game at 5-5 with a three-run home run to straightaway centerfield.

In the eighth following a lead-off error, Colgate broke the tie with a Mia Guevarra double. Then Jordan Miller hit a two-run home run as the visitors led 8-5.

Lafayette managed to bring the tying run to the plate twice in the bottom of the eighth on singles by Kaitlyn Rarick and Rebecca Dvorak. Colgate's Kyle Griswold closed out the game, getting Sweigart to pop out before striking out Grover to end the game.

Hay (3-5) claimed the win, allowing five runs on nine hits with six K's over seven innings. Cook (2-6) pitched 7.2 innings, surrendering five hits (just one earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout.

Lafayette (5-31, 2-9) and Colgate (8-24, 3-5) close out the series on Sunday at noon at Metzgar Fields.
