Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette women's lacrosse team couldn't solve Lehigh in Bethlehem on Wednesday evening as the Leopards dropped the 2018 edition of The Rivalry by a 12-6 score.

It was a defensive battle to start with the first goal taking more than nine minutes to materialize. The Leopards struck first at the 20:32 mark as junior Jane Kirby put Lafayette in front with an unassisted tally. Lehigh made its first run in a response to that goal, though, rattling off six straight to take a 6-1 lead with 12 minutes to play in the opening half.

The Maroon and White settled down with a pair of rookie markers from Anna Stein and Colleen Bannon to pull within three at 6-3. However, the home side closed the half strong with a two-goal spurt to take an 8-3 advantage into intermission.

The game opened up out of the halftime break as three more from Lehigh put the margin at its largest, 11-3, with 20:06 to play. Lafayette never got closer than within six from that point forward as their rivals closed it out with a final of 12-6.

Senior co-captain Anna Raymond was a bright spot for the Maroon and White between the pipes, relieving freshman Quinn Lacy after 23:56. Raymond allowed just four goals and made nine saves in her 36:04 of action. On the other side, Samantha Sagi was impressive, stopping 14 of her 35 shots faced and giving up just six goals to move to 10-5 on the year.

Junior Emma Novick was the lone multi-goal scorer for the Leopards with a pair, while Kirby moved closer to the 50-goal mark with her 47th tally of the season. Other goal-scorers included Bannon, Stein and Schaen with one apiece.

Lafayette led in shots by a 35-33 margin, but Lehigh edged the Maroon and White in ground balls, 19-15. Draw controls finished at 10 apiece, while the Leopards forced 11 Mountain Hawk turnovers compared to just seven of their own.

Three Patriot League tilts remain for Lafayette, starting with Senior Day on Saturday when Navy comes to Fisher Stadium for a 1 p.m. matchup.
