EASTON, Pa. – Despite Lafayette turning it over a season-low five times in the first half, Lehigh was able to open the game on a 15-4 run and did not look back Thursday night at
Kirby Sports Center in Patriot League action, defeating the Leopards, 70-43.
While both teams struggled to find the basket in the opening frame, Lehigh (9-3, 1-0 PL) got hot in the second period, shooting 56 percent and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc to jump out to a 37-16 lead at the break.
Lafayette (5-7, 0-1 PL) showed life out of the locker room as sophomore
Olivia Martino connected on a deep jumper before the Mountain Hawks continued their hot shooting, going 3-of-4 from deep in the quarter.
Sophomore
Natalie Kucowski led the charge with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks while freshman
Makaila Wilson followed close behind with seven points and four boards.
Overall, Lehigh shot 46 percent on the night with three players in double-figures, led by Camryn Buhr's double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Maroon and White will continue its Patriot League schedule at home on Sunday when Holy Cross makes the trip to College Hill with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
